Safety Director – San Antonio, TX

Kerrville Bus Company, a subsidiary of Coach USA, has a new and exciting opportunity for a full-time Safety Director for Texas.

Job Summary
The Safety Director is responsible for overseeing and ensuring that the health and safety of our employees is a top priority.  It is the Safety Director’s duty to anticipate, identify and correct any and all problems involving safety and to work with all levels of employees to implement procedures that will prevent accidents and injuries. 


Job Responsibilities:
• Sets the tone for ensuring all operators are current with training requirements of company and contract.
• Ensures all safety manuals, programs, policies and practices are current and meet the needs of the operating divisions.
• Resides as the expert in FMCSA, FTA, EPA and OSHA compliance and regulations.
• If applicable, ensures all new hires meet minimum general qualifications for each depot including background and DMV checks.
• Ensures that Safety technology tools are used and those results are examined, trend data is analyzed and plans are developed to reduce and then prevent future safety incidents.
• Oversees Corporate Safety Incentives and programs managed effectively and consistently, including assignment of discipline.
• Ensures a consistent Safety Culture throughout the region that incorporates operations, safety and maintenance departments and emphasizes the team approach and individual responsibility of all employees to achieve common goals.
• Maintains compliance and oversees successful completion of all related audits including those conducted by home office and client staff and by state and federal regulatory agencies.
• Provides support regarding classroom and behind the wheel instruction according to corporate and client specifications in all aspects of vehicle operation in the course of passenger transportation, including defensive driving, service area familiarization, passenger loading, unloading and securement, proper manifest documentation, use of on-board equipment, accident and emergency procedures, dispatch and radio communications, and passenger sensitivity.
• Reviews reporting of all vehicular, passenger and employee accidents/incidents for determination of cause and preventability, identifying potential trends to be addressed in future training efforts.
• Ensures that all project training materials are up to date, that necessary supplies are available and that inventories are secured and kept up to date.
• Maintain and submit monthly loss control summaries, administer accident claims and maintain accident files
• Conduct company safety meetings and facility inspections 
 
Required Experience/Education:
• College degree or 5+ years of Safety management experience 
• Certified Director of Safety (CDS) and/or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) designation (preferred)
• Previous passenger transportation in current project or similar environment
 
Required Skills/Abilities:
• Knowledge of all applicable safety rules, regulations - FTA, FMCSA, DOT, OSHA
• Knowledge of regulations and corporate safety programs and policies
• Ability to read, write and speak English
• Ability to communicate effectively and work with all departments
• Ability to work independently and objectively
• Strong organizational skills
• Ability to effectively delegate tasks and provide appropriate supervision and follow up to department staffs
• Familiar with windows-based computer operating systems and Microsoft Office packages.
• Strong analytical skills
• Strong Microsoft applications experience

Working Conditions:
• Works in both an office and field environment
• Must pass pre-employment drug screen and background check
• Up to 70% travel
